Getting Started
New to Taxonomy Matcher? Follow these simple steps to get started with your first product categorization.
- Register for an account or Login if you already have one.
- Navigate to the Matcher page.
- Choose whether to paste your product data (CSV format) or upload a CSV file. Ensure your data includes 'id', 'title', and 'description' columns.
- (Optional) Upload a custom taxonomy .txt file if you don't want to use the default Google Taxonomy.
- Click "Start Matching".
- View your results on the page or download them later from your Dashboard.
Pro Tip
For the best results, provide detailed product titles and descriptions. The more information our AI has to work with, the more accurate the category matching will be.
Understanding Credits
Free Credits
- You receive 100 Free Credits when you sign up.
- These reset daily at 5 AM UTC.
Paid Credits
- Each product match costs 1 credit.
- Credits never expire.
If you run out of credits, you will be prompted to purchase more via Stripe when you try to match products. You can view your remaining credits on your Dashboard.

CSV Formatting
Your CSV data (whether pasted or uploaded) must include at least the following columns in the header row:
id
A unique identifier for your product.
title
The product title or name.
description
A description of the product.
Important Note
Use a semicolon (;) as the delimiter between columns, not commas.
Fields longer than 2000 characters will be automatically truncated for optimal processing.
Example:
id;title;description 1;Example Toaster;A high-quality 2-slice toaster with multiple settings. 2;Coffee Mug;Ceramic coffee mug, 12oz capacity.
Custom Taxonomy Formatting
If providing a custom taxonomy, upload a plain text (.txt) file where:
- Each full category path is on its own line.
- Levels within a path are separated by the '>' character (greater-than sign). Spaces around the '>' are optional.
- The system will automatically clean up the format, so both
Electronics>Audio>HeadphonesandElectronics > Audio > Headphoneswill work. - ID prefixes like "123 - " will be automatically stripped from category names.
With spaces (recommended):
Electronics > Audio > Headphones Electronics > Audio > Speakers Home > Kitchen > Appliances
Without spaces (compact):
Electronics>Audio>Headphones Electronics>Audio>Speakers Home>Kitchen>Appliances
Exporting Results
You can export your match results in multiple formats:
CSV
Standard comma-separated values format, easily importable into spreadsheet applications.
JSON
Structured data format ideal for developers or system integrations.
Excel
Direct Excel file format (.xlsx) for immediate use in Microsoft Excel.
You can also choose to include metadata with your exports, which provides additional information about the match session.
Saving Custom Taxonomies
When uploading a custom taxonomy, you have the option to save it for future use. Saved taxonomies will be available in your account for all future matching sessions, eliminating the need to re-upload the same file multiple times.

- Consistent categorization across multiple matching sessions
- No need to keep local copies of your taxonomy files
Troubleshooting
Login Issues
Use the "Forgot Password?" link on the Login page if you're having trouble accessing your account.
Matching Errors
Ensure your CSV data is correctly formatted (semicolon-separated) and fields don't exceed character limits. Check the error message displayed on the page for specific details about what went wrong.
Payment Issues
Contact Stripe support for issues during the payment process. Contact us if credits are not applied after a successful payment.
Export Problems
If you encounter issues with exporting results, try a different format or contact our support team.
